His next goals are to ensure that Musgrove Park has a new surgical building and to secure additional funding for education in Taunton Deane.
Away from politics, Jeremy relaxes by watching Somerset play cricket at the County Ground, just a few minutes from his home in Taunton. He also enjoys walking in the hills around Taunton Deane and stopping for a pint of Somerset beer in a village pub.
Achievements - Jeremy's record in Taunton Deane
Jeremy energetically champions the interests of Taunton Deane residents. He has made a positive difference to the local community. These are some examples of his successful campaigns in Taunton Deane:
Saving the hydrographic office
Jeremy fought to keep the Hydrographic Office in Taunton instead of letting it be relocated to Exeter. He held debates in the House of Commons and met with Government Ministers. Keeping the UKHO in Taunton has saved hundreds of local jobs and been good for our economy.
Campaigning for the Cancer centre
Jeremy was committed to the new Beacon Centre from the outset. He met with the building contractors and the Secretary of State for Health to help ensure that the project was completed. Jeremy is delighted that the management at Musgrove Park succeeded in building our first-class cancer centre.
Saving Taunton Deane
Government Ministers planned to abolish Taunton Deane and replace it with a new Unitary Council covering the whole of Somerset. Jeremy believed it was important to keep our special Taunton Deane identity. He joined MPs from all parties to successfully pressurise the Government into dropping the plan.
