The forthcoming General Election in Taunton Deane is set to be a neck-and-neck contest between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. Previous Labour voters realise that their party has no chance in Taunton Deane and they are switching their support to local MP Jeremy Browne. The latest convert is former Labour party member Martin Peters, who has defected to the Liberal Democrats.
Martin Peters said:
"I was a long-standing Labour member but even I will definitely be voting for Jeremy Browne to be re-elected as our MP. There are two main reasons. One, I think the Liberal Democrats now represent open-minded and forward-looking people better than any other party. And second, what is the point of voting Labour in Taunton Deane anyway?
"Labour have got no chance here. I would much rather vote positively for Jeremy Browne."
Jeremy Browne said:
"It is time for a change, but people remain completely unconvinced by the alternative being offered by the Conservatives. Many previous Labour supporters now realise that the Liberal Democrats offer the positive change that Britain needs.
"Labour is in a distant third place in Taunton Deane and cannot possibly win. It is a clear-cut choice here between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives."
