Jeremy Browne MP meets resident Ivy Trenchard during his visit to Cedar Lodge nursing home in North Taunton.

Taunton constituency MP Jeremy Browne has continued his tour of residential nursing homes in Taunton Deane with a visit to Cedar Lodge. He took the opportunity to highlight the extra research and care that will be needed to provide for dementia sufferers as our population grows older.

Jeremy Browne said:

"I opened the newly-refurbished Cedar Lodge nursing home back in 2006 and I have remained in regular contact.

"Cedar Lodge and Aspen Court provide a comprehensive dementia care service in North Taunton. This type of provision is likely to become increasingly necessary and I am pleased that modernised facilities are being built in Taunton Deane.

"Dementia is a terrible illness which often causes great distress for relatives. I have consistently supported the medical research that is seeking a cure for dementia but we have to plan on the basis that it will become more prevalent with an ageing population.

"I am pleased that nursing homes like Cedar Lodge are also able to recruit and retain the trained staff that they need. There will be greater employment opportunities in the care sector in Somerset as demand increases for residential accommodation."
