Jeremy was elected as the MP for Taunton Deane in 2005.

Born in 1970, Jeremy's father was a diplomat, who finished his career as British Ambassador in Iran and Denmark. Jeremy was brought up in many different countries, ranging from Zimbabwe to Belgium. He is the oldest of four children.

Jeremy graduated from Nottingham University with a politics degree. He was also president of the students' union and editor of the award-winning student newspaper.

He has worked in politics as the national press and broadcasting director for the Liberal Democrats. At the 1997 General Election Jeremy was the Liberal Democrat candidate in Enfield Southgate, where Michael Portillo famously lost his seat.

Jeremy has widespread private-sector experience outside politics. He worked for financial consultancy Dewe Rogerson, global communications agency Edelman and corporate management company ReputationInc.

In Parliament, Jeremy has been a shadow Liberal Democrat spokesman on foreign affairs and home affairs, and a member of the cross-party home affairs select committee, and shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

Following the formation of the Coalition Government in May 2010, Jeremy was appointed as Minister of State in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. His responsibilities include South East Asia and Far East, Caribbean, Central America, South America, Australasia and Pacific, the 2012 Olympics, Public diplomacy, Human rights, Consular policy, Migration, Drugs and International Crime.

In Taunton Deane Jeremy has been a hands-on MP. He visits huge numbers of local schools, charities, community organisations and businesses. He strongly supported the building of the new Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park hospital and was instrumental in campaigning for the Hydrographic Office to remain in Taunton Deane.
